With an additional column, the Custom Design SQ 402 speaker stand is more rigid than the single column SQ 400 stand and has been said to be more visually interesting.
As with all the stands in the SQ range, the square columns can be either ERW BS EN 10305-3 grade steel or solid hardwood and the hardwood version also benefits from a top plate made of anti-resonance 4mm Inert Acoustic Steel™.
The solid hardwood square support columns are manufactured from solid Ash, Oak or Walnut harvested from sustainable, professionally managed forests and available finished in Black, White, Oak, Cherry, Mahogany, and Walnut. The natural properties of wood dampens resonance noise vibration and this is enhanced by the Acoustic Steel™ top plate, preventing the transition through the design and influencing the stand and speakers performance.
In constrast, the steel columns can be filled mass-loaded with Custom Design Inert Filler to add to the final mass, increasing both stability and rigidity (1 bag per column recommended).
